Hey guys!
I've been a member here for a while but I rarely post. I was wondering what method you all use to wrap items around the pen tube. I have seen the "We the People" blanks and I want to do something similar to that with reproduced confederate bank notes I recently picked up. The paper is super thin and I'm not sure how to apply it to the tube neatly. I have read the tutorial on wrapping Avery address labels but I need to apply my own "sticky" for this project. What kind of glue do you guys use for thinner material and how do you wrap the tube neatly? The goal is to not blemish the material while still making the seam as minimal as possible.

Thanks!

I have done several pens using fabric wrapped around the tube. I've had really good luck using Goop Multipurpose Adhesive that I get at Lowe's. It comes in a tube like toothpaste. I squeeze it out and spread it with my fingers (in latex gloves) so I make sure I get it spread evenly across the piece. When it's covered, I roll it up on the tube, squeezing out any excess as I go then wipe off any excess. I give it at least 24 hours to cure. Make sure your paper is impermeable or the glue will soak through. I had that problem with a piece of old military camo fabric, had been laundered too many times.

And why would this be??? We do not bite. This is a friendly place. Make a pen show us. Have an idea post it. Have a question ask it. Photos we like photos.

As to your question. Spray adhesive is what you want. Many different brands. 3M, Krylon are two very good companies. Now you can get varied strengths. They can be repositionable adhesives or permanent. I do alot of scroll sawing and to adhere my plans to my wood blanks I use repositionable 3M but have also used Krylon. Lite even coat. The adhesive should be made for what you want to glue and what it is glued to. Your case paper to metal. Stay away from 3M 77. To aggressive for what you want. Good luck and post more often. Thanks for the replies guys! I will definitely try the goop for my fabric wrapping and the spray adhesive for thinner stuff. I appreciate the tips! I also looked at the Midwest Penturners Gathering page and I am definitely interested. I didn't know there was such an event. Thanks again guys!
