I was watching this video and got a flash of inspiration. Ernie Conover turns a piece of wood to round, etc. I got the idea of using pen blanks. You could get one or two out of a five inch blank. Wood or the various synthetics would be an added bonus. Or one could use pieces and segment them. Ernie uses a piece of wood on a face plate to hold the round blank. Good use for a collet chuck. Enjoy the video. A search will bring up a sackful of various turners and styles, even a tiny bowl earring.
