No, I haven't designed some wild slitting saw that doubles as a marking gauge.

If you have a mini mill then you probably have one of these...

It's one of those Chinese, spring loaded multi-size hole arbors. If you've used one you know that it's a POS. I got tired of my saw wobbling so I made a single size hole arbor from a piece of 1 1/4" drill rod...

Here it is with the 5/16" tommy bar, also made from drill rod...

I FINALLY have a saw that runs true!

I turned the shaft to 3/4" so I can just put it in my Jacobs chuck, which I hardly ever remove.

Here's a marking gauge that I knocked together. I have several for wood but I do alot of sheet metal work and this works alot better than the one's for wood...

The marking pin is a piece of 1/8" stainless that I sharpened on the bench grinder, it's held in place with an allen set screw.
I milled the top of the rod flat so the brass screw would keep it from rotating.

The body is 3/4" and the rod is 5/16". I made the thumbscrew from 5/8" round brass stock and put some knurling on it.

I hope you enjoy the pics!

That's what I love about tools, you have the means to make tools that can make other tools! Looks like a lot of fun was spent making these.

I take it, these were made on the new fancy schmancy lathe!

Very nice. I have been wanting to get a milling machine to do some playing around but that will be in the ohhh so far future.

Thanks guys!

Seamus, it can be used for just about anything that needs sawing but the thing it's probably used for most is making a clamp....like this...

Rick,

I'm admiring your work and the slitting saw is nice. Question - - - - -do you use the slot in the saw to keep it from slipping or just use the set screw to bind it down good and tight?
