No, I haven't designed some wild slitting saw that doubles as a marking gauge.
If you have a mini mill then you probably have one of these...
It's one of those Chinese, spring loaded multi-size hole arbors. If you've used one you know that it's a POS. I got tired of my saw wobbling so I made a single size hole arbor from a piece of 1 1/4" drill rod...
Here it is with the 5/16" tommy bar, also made from drill rod...
I FINALLY have a saw that runs true!
I turned the shaft to 3/4" so I can just put it in my Jacobs chuck, which I hardly ever remove.
Here's a marking gauge that I knocked together. I have several for wood but I do alot of sheet metal work and this works alot better than the one's for wood...
The marking pin is a piece of 1/8" stainless that I sharpened on the bench grinder, it's held in place with an allen set screw.
I milled the top of the rod flat so the brass screw would keep it from rotating.
The body is 3/4" and the rod is 5/16". I made the thumbscrew from 5/8" round brass stock and put some knurling on it.
I hope you enjoy the pics!
