I was fooling around on the lathe last week and wanted turn a recently acquired piece of walnut into a simple vase for dry flowers. Well one thing led to another and before long I was sharpening an old hacksaw blade and making it into a turning tool. As you can see I got the notion to make my first Captive Ring.

BTW....I used my hollowing tools to hollow this out.

Dark Walnut sanded to 400 grit and Cica 1850 walnut stain and one coat of liquid minwax wax paste.

Comments and suggestions welcomed.

Very nice work. I'd like to see a picture of the tool you made. I'm into making tools.

Well it's not much more than a hacksaw blade and ground to sit my needs for the ring. It's basically a parting tool. The majority of the ring (captive) was done with my mini turning tools.

The entire hacksaw blade.
