Pau ferro is also called morado and Bolivian Rosewood, though not a true rosewood. I find it very easy to turn and finishes to a high gloss easily. I've gotten good results with Mylands friction polish and CA, but it was very glossy just sanding to 12000 MM. I really like it, it reminds me of good walnut, but harder.

Texas Ebony sometimes has a tendency to crack so take the normal precautions you would for any crack prone wood.

I have some wood that is labelled Lau Preto. Not sure if it's the same as what you have. The wood I have is related to bocote, just more of a greenish brown color instead of the yellow color of bocote.
