Recently I picked up some sawmill cutoffs that a local sawmill was selling for bbq wood. I processed some, and still have more to cut. I was wondering how good this would turn. You be the judge.
South texas mesquite.

Personally I like it! Especially the wood that has a red color or tint. It's sometimes hard to work with because of cracks or checks but pretty wood.

Mesquite is a favorite wood to use. I love the way it turns. I love the colors. Yes, it is a hard wood but it does turn nicely. For bowls and other non-pen turnings I like to turn it green. Thanks for sharing. Nice pen(s).
Do a good turn daily!

I've been around a ton of mesquite but never seen it turned. It naturally twists and grows into odd, sort of chaotic shapes making it difficult to use in other projects.

Perfect for small items like pens, though. Looks great to me.

I live in south Texas and have a great love of anything made with Mesquite - Black Mesquite. If I had to guess my most often asked for wood for penis Mesquite. Kinda a Texas thing 🙂

Very nice! I was in Carlsbad, NM and they have a lot of wild Mesquite growing everywhere. I was able to cut some and bring it back home. The interesting thing is that it's more red than the one you turned. I guess it all depends where it grows!

Again nice pen!

I have a piece of mesquite girl that is 12x12x3 inches thick, was planning on turning a bowl out of it, but I think I will cut it up and make some listed boxes instead and maybe a few pen blanks. Nice pen.
