So I've had this idea for a while, just had no clue where or how to start. The idea was about a leather pen, that you could feel the leather on it. Not to diminish the popularity of type that are popular here, but if I've got a leather pen I want to feel the leather. So one day I found someone that was doing exactly what my Idea was. So we wrote back and forth a few times and there I was down the rabbit hole. So what we have here are my first two completed leather wrapped pens. They are both Diamond Knurls. The darker one is just scrap leather from a craft store. The second or lighter dimpled one is Deer skin leather, it turned out a bit proud of the fixtures. Comments and critiques are welcome.

very nicely done. there was someone here that did this type of work years ago. I know there are a few people that do the stacking of leather rounds and turning down but this is very cool. Looks like a football. Thanks for showing.

I like your approach. The stitching adds to both the look and the "handmade" appeal. I really like the contrasting thread to the leather color. It is possible to "skive" the ends of the leather slightly to get a better fit next to the hardware. Unless the seam is messed up and needs hid under the clip (not that anyone here has ever hid a defect under the clip) I like the stitching showing on its own. Quite nice.

Nice! If you haven't tried it already, get a skive/skiver/skiving knife. You can thin the edges to the thickness you want so it won't end up proud. You can expect the leather to discolor with use - mainly from hand moisture/oils/dirty fingers - but I think they look better with that aged look.

Those look really good! I've often pondered using leather on pens, but never really taken the time to try, as it seemed fraught with complexities. Love the way you laced these up with contrasting line. Wonderfully done!

As I mentioned I'm still very much a beginner at this, but yes I can bevel the top and bottom edge as I did the seem.

I don't think I'd ever heard of this before, but those are really cool. Great idea, and very nice work for a first try! I have nothing to offer for critiques or suggestions, other than keep going. 👍

I like it! I had that idea and wrapped a magic wand handle, but had not thought about doing it with pens. Stacked leather would be cool, too, but perhaps difficult to drill. Hmm, leather punches... a really sharp skew... hmm
