Too fast drying of wet wood.

You can either start with dry wood or rough turn wet wood then let it dry slowly (by wrapping or treating with wax) before final turning.

If you are in a hurry, you can also rough turn then soak in DNA then treat as above. It will dry faster and you can turn it sooner. You can also microwave dry if it will fit your microwave.

If you turn thinner, the chances of your bowl/vase cracking is also reduced but they may warp as they dry. I prefer that actually.

Another option is using stable wood...one that shrinks tangentially and axially...equally (or almost).

Good luck!
