I have the beall chuck and collets that I use on my jet mini and I have an ER-32 set and chuck that I use on my mini metal lathe. The collets and the lock nuts seem to be interchangable between the two. The largest diameter collet I have is 5/8ths inch.

I have been looking for a collet that would fit the two chucks that would take a 3/4 inch rod, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. I do see a variety of collets with the prefix ER, but followed by different numbers like 15, 20, 40, etc. Does anyone know what all that means and if those with a different number than 32 would fit either of these chucks? Just wondering.

The numbers are the size range numbers of the chuck/collets, 11 being the smaller range and then on up. You would need a set of ER 32 to get into the 3/4 range the sets are available on eBay and you might be able to find a single 3/4 for you set.

actually, er32 collets go up to 25/64 in standard, and 20mm in metric, which is a smidge larger. Nice to have one of the two, because sometime stuff that is supposed to be 3/4 is just a tiny bit oversize, and won't fit.

Can I assume you meant to say 25/32" (not 25/64")?

Yes, you may. :) checked again and 25/32", Range: .742 - .781" is available as is a 13/16", Range: .773 - .812" but it's pretty rare. I also noticed that there is also a standard available 21mm in er32 but the range is .688 - .728" and may not be as useful as the 20 at 748 - .787".

almost all standard imperial sets stop at 3/4 and metric at 20mm, but if you are using an imperial set and happen across the 35/32 pick it up if it's reasonable, it might come in handy.

Me, I'm waiting till 800watt puts the 2-20 metric sets up on ebay again. Of course I'll probably not be able to afford one, since I'll be bidding against all youse guys now.
