Say, I carved objects on the end of nails to be heated and used as a branding iron. Originally I did this to place an identification on each pen that was very small and tasteful. Like an artists signature. Well I once placed the Longhorn cowhead on a orange pen for a college graduate.
How would I use gold or aluminum foil in this process so that the object branded into the wood or acrylic turns out to look like gold or silver??

I just learned how to do this. You can use acrylic paint in any color. Use a cotton swab and put the paint in the carving, or in this case, branded area. Wipe with a cloth over the top and allow the paint to dry and retouch if necessary. The roughened area of the carving, engraving or brand will give some tooth for the paint to adhere to and once dry will not come off. Once dry you can lightly wax the area.
