    Soaking Pen blank after stabilization

After the blank is stabilized in the chamber, do you have to leave it in the chamber for a few days to soak, or can you put in another receptacle with resin and let it soak? Also, does anyone put the blank in a pressure pot to soak?

    Epoxy Stabilizing

I am set up for stabilizing with a vacuum chamber and a pump but am looking for a one-step, no cook solution. Now, that is a pie-in-the sky idea. I don't know if it's even possible but I'm determined to try to find a way and here's what I have questions. Has anyone tried impregnating wood with...

We just killed our 4th vacuum! šŸ˜”

Ok all, this is getting ridiculous. We are on our 4th or 5th vacuum at this point. 4 of them have been JB's which are supposed to be exactly what we need. My guess is that we're still getting cactus juice into the pump some how, but I can't see it happening. These are lasting about 2 weeks at...

    Thoughts on different stabilizing processes?

Hi all, I just wanted to ask your thoughts on the following stabilizing processes: Run vacuum pump for 2 hours, hold vacuum for a length of time and bring to atmosphere allowing blanks to soak, repeat till bubbles stop. Run vacuum pump for 2 hours, hold vacuum, repeat till bubbles stop...

Wood Hardener vs Resin - Test and results

I thought I'd share a thing I recently tried. I used a food vacuum saver device, a jar, and some Minwax Wood Hardener to attempt to stabilize some buckeye burl. I wasn't sure how it would turn out compared to wood that had been stabilized using cactus juice but I was looking for a cheaper way...

Starting to dye and stabilize and could use some guidance

I'm going to be dyeing and stabilizing wood myself later today as soon as UPS shows up with my resin order and could use some guidance on dye to resin ratios. Using Cactus Juice resin and alumilite dye, trying for a nice mid to dark blue in Hemlock wood (Pine/Fir type wood) Any advice on a...

I didn't want to make an experimental mess if someone has already tried this. Simply, has anyone used the white alumilite dye with cactus juice ?? And what were the results ?? Brad

    No pressure pot

Is there a way to get good results in casting and stabilizing without having to have a pressure pot?

    Stabilizing Snakewood - Question

I would like to make a bangle using Snakewood and so I bought a small block to give it a try. I have read a lot on the IAP forum about Snakewood and cracking. I liked the advice of a few folks who suggested "don't try to avoid cracks, make them appear and fix it with sanding dust and CA"...

Enduro- how thick of a layer is it?

OK, I'm getting sick of CA, as I'vehad yet another finish crack on me for no reason! This was yellowheart that was dry. Not ebony, or a peice of wet wood. Maybe it was the CA, as it is a bit old.... but it went on fine, and held for 3-4 weeks or more before tiny cracks formed in the pen. :(...
