G'day!
Sleeved this beautiful chunk of purple with some ebonite and made a massive pen!
Ebonite section, Jowo #6 b, marble acrylic finials with abalone coin inlay, spacers, watch crown roll stop, CA finish.

That's beautiful! I'm curious, did you get/use the abalone pieces that exact size or did you need to make them fit? I have some cabochons that I'm planning to use at some point. I have heard abalone dust is quite toxic so it needs to be wet cut/sanded. I somehow see myself ending up with slightly oval shaped pieces if I try that freehand.

Thanks Mal. Diameter in the centre is 16.5 mm. More of an experimental pen. I don't like the step down on it but like the seamless look when closed.
I think I'll shorten the cap finial and insert another abalone coin

Thanks mate. I purchased these off ebay, already polished so I used my parting tool to make them fit snug and just left them

Oh, nice, so they are pretty much strung disc beads. Abalone adds such beautiful accent to many things.

Very attractive pen Casey. I missed out on some curly purpleheart before, I just don't see it available very often. I admire the focus you have put on kit-less designs. It is very impressive. - Dave

Excellent pen and nicely made. I have a Love/Hate relationship with Purple Heart. Usually after milling it, it turns a walnut brown, if I let it set for a few weeks I can usually get the purple back. I have tried the UV treatment by setting it in the sun, but I must watch it, so it doesn't get hot and warp. This is tough, because I'm not much of a planner, when I want to make something, I want to do it NOW! But as I get older, I'm learning to have some patience with it.
