I'm getting started turning my first Zericote Pen. I've already discovered it is a very hard wood.... but very beautiful! How do I finish it? I intend to MM it to a high gloss, but then what choices do I have for a protective finish? Thanks in advance for the help.

Same as with any other wood. My preference is CA, but there are many other fine finishes. There are also many products which are not suited for pens.

It's not oily, pick a finish.

Before I knew anything from IAP, I made quite a few ziricote. Everything worked fine.

Ziricote

Hi Gl,
I turned my first Ziricote pen this week enclosed pic shows the finish I used CA or Super Glue common name the thin stuff applied with the lathe running full speed the CA applied from blue towel one coat then the next for four coats each coat straight after the last. Let it dry for a bit then quick spray with setting stuff. I always use a wax stick then put on polish off two coats.

Have success Peter.

I have one on my bench right now as we speak. I sanded to 2000 grit and wiped down with CA. I was suppose to top coat today but ran out of time. Will try tomorrow and I am using good old CA as a finish. I do not suspect any problems. The one thing make sure you get the sanding marks out before you finish because it will be too late when top coated.
