Hello All,
This is a little long, but PLEASE read.
I was reading a post by t001Xa22 (Bill) about a program called Beads of Courage where Childrens hospitals give beads to the child after each cancer treatment, milestone, etc...
http://www.penturners.org/forum/f18/very-thoughtful-idea-100532/
As I was diagnosed with cancer in June, the chemotherapy is not allowing me to make a pen up to my standards. (it is affecting my eyesight) But, after a little practice, I found I CAN turn a bead.
I would like to ask any member who has scrap cutoffs to help me out. I have about 8 more weeks of treatment before my doctor releases me back to work. If you would be willing to send me your scrap cutoffs, I can turn a BUNCH of beads for the program. Wood or resins, it does not matter, I will turn, seal, and deliver as many beads as I can get my hands on.
As any of you who have gone through a serious illness know, sitting around doing nothing is the worst thing. This project will help not only by giving me something to do, but hopefully help a child. Going through treatment is rough enough as an adult, I cannot imagine what is like for the children.
I have contacted the Childrens hospital here in Milwaukee, and they will gladly accept whatever I turn. (if you send me cutoffs and request they be sent to your local Childrens hospital, I will be glad to do that)
If you want to help, send me a PM and I will send you my address.
Thanks,
Ron
