Anyone else go to the woodpeckers website and think, "I'll take one of everything." Too bad so much of it is so expensive. That said, I could have bought some really nice stuff with the money I've spent on "bargain" tools and yard equipment that I've had to replace much earlier than anticipated because it (1) broke, (2) broke down, (3) was poorly designed, (4) wore out/lost power, and/or (5) couldn't do the job. I usually take pretty good care of my stuff, too. I'm the sort of guy who follows the manual for maintenance even when it seems like overkill!

At least the woodpeckers stuff is nice. Thoughtfully engineered. Elegant clever designs. And built to last. I just need to think long and hard about whether the tool they are selling is something I need, or something I want. That in itself is a virtue!

I've looked at them but never had the urge to buy anything. I've got my tools down pretty well and bought quality tools in the past. All the junk tools I've purchased as "good deals" all got donated to the restore for someone else less fortunate to use...for at least some time.

When I am trying something out or doing something I know I will seldom do/use I often go for lower cost. If I happen to break it or wear it out I realize I may need it more than I thought, then I go for best value for the dollar.

if I am buying something I know I am going to use a lot or it will see heavy use, requires precision or durability for other reasons, I go for the best value for the dollar right off the bat.

Wood Peckers does make some nice stuff but they also make a lot of stuff that I really do not need or wouldn't use enough to justify the cost. A couple of items I considered buying from them I ultimately found high quality values for my needs at a lower cost.

I may ultimately buy something from them but to date, the value has not lined up with the need for me.

Woodpeckers are marketing geniuses. They make nice tools out of cheap aluminum, paint it an eye-catching color, and sell it at incredible markups.

Their engineering and the resulting products are very good, no doubt about that. Their marketing prowess is great. Their prices are absurd.

I have bought two of their tools, and only because they were special and had no real equivalents elsewhere. One of them is their carbide pen mill.

You can find comparable quality for less than half the cost. You can find quality beyond what woodworkers need for 1/4 the cost. Just my opinion.

That is my problem with their stuff. I have the time and the tools,, if I wanted or needed some of their stuff, I would make it out of good tool steel. But for aluminum, I think it is over priced.
