what kind of wood is this

The short square is the end grain and the blanks show each side of cut. I think it might be osage orange but not sure. Help me know what kind of wood it is for sure. Thank you

Don't know, John. It looks too pink to be Osage Orange. Here is a picture of some I have sent out.

Some of what I have looks more Orange, but not the pink shown in your picture.

Could it be mesquite ?

John, It sure looks like mesquite to me. I have several pieces that could easily be the twins of those.

I agree with Fred. In fact, John, it could be the brother of the mesquite blank you sent me a month or so ago!

Thank you ...found a box full sitting in the corner of my shop...some pieces are 5x5 x 12...I'm gonna have a ball !

My vote is for 'I don't know'. Identifying wood from a photo can be difficult. Methinks it could be just walnut. Definately agree, not osage orange.
