I'm just curious... I have a couple of lathe tools that need handles.
I have a good selection of nicely colored or figured woods to use, including african blackwood, tulip, walnut, beech, ash, maple, and some other stuff that eludes me at the moment.
The last one I made was of a nicely figured tiger maple, and I dyed it purple. (those that remember my call it pink... IT'S PURPLE! lol)
Anyway, I think I'm going back to maple for these (gives me a good excuse to go to Mr. Dunlap in Chantilly to see his shop and his beautiful selection of wood!) I'm deciding on a couple of colors that I might use, and apply them to some bowls too! I did consider some of those "fancy" commercial handles, but decided the money is better spent on wood, even if the cost is 1:1, I like wood!
What's YOUR favorite for a lathe tool handle?
