Thread wrapping on blanks?

I'm working on a fly fishing kit. Considering using rod wrapping thread for a different approach than plain sanding and finishing. Looking to the put a wrap in the middle of the maple blank. Questioning if I should turn down the area a bit; overcoat the thread with rod building epoxy to set it; color preservative on thread; final coat of CA? Lot of questions. Thanks for reading a replying. Got a lot of scrap to try.

Just thinks why not use the same clear coat material use on fly poles guides threads. My fly pole are well used ant the guides threads still look good. I would think you would you under size the blank so when thread and over coat is on it would be up to OD size.

Now the thread wrappers can talk to this much better than I and use the correct terms and tell you differences. But I have played around with thread wrapping of sorts. Found out there is different types of threads that make a difference when top coating. I do not remember what was what though. But this one example I show here I used a metallic thread and top it with a color presevative called U-40 Color Lock #2. Believe me I have tried a bunch of different color preservatives on different threads and some worked fine and other did not work at all. I found this one to work best for anything I was coating. Got it from Mud Hole. I built the cap of this blank usesing end caps of acrylic and aluminum. I then wrapped the center portion with 3 layers of the metallic thread. I Put a very very small dot of thin CA at the end of the start thread. Did not want too much or it would mound and would show when you wrapped. I then wrapped as I said 3 times to make sure there were no gaps to see the tube through. Again a small drop of CA to finish it off and then cut with knife. I top coated with the presevative. I believe 2 or 3 coats. Know it was more than 1. I then cast the entire blank in Liquid Diamonds epoxy resin. I found resins of any kind would turn threads dark and they lose brightness. Then turned down to what was needed. Pen looks as good as it did the day I did it.

Now this is just my method of the way I did things because I do not do fancy designs. I have done other blanks using same method but using cloth threads and not the metallics. Many threads to choose from. But what I wanted to do was to use billiard cue wrapping threads and not fishing threads. I still want to go down that worm hole too. As I said others will be able to help more so than me. Good luck. Do not be afraid to cast in resin instead of CA. I would test any product before committing to finish products though.

Now when I did these pens the bottom barrel is rope and I did the color presever thing again because was afraid of color change. . I then cast in LD epoxy resin. It did not discolor the blank at all.
