Good thing he walks slow enough for me to grab my camera.

Chuck, I saw plenty of those trespassers when I lived in Land O Lakes, FL. They do walk slow, but will dig a hole quickly.
Did you have any stew that evening?

Yeh, this is the first one of these I've seen. No, this kind of stew is not on my menu....YET

If you zoom in on the second picture, you can see a snail on the back of the tortoise giving him hell for going too fast!:biggrin::biggrin:
That's funny right there:biggrin:

A tortoise! I almost got one as a pet, I was in Washington state at a reptile sanctuary and it was $25, I didn't know the laws with bringing it to Canada so I had to leave it behind ... would have been the quietest pet I ever owned!

Sent from my iPhone.

What kind of turtle is it? How many pens can you make out of him?:biggrin:
I want to keep him around in case he eats bugs.

He seemed peaceful enough.

Your lucky it wasn't a gator..Cool pictures.
Two streets over from me, I spotted a gator in a culvert pipe under a driveway. The resident owner said, it's been there for a month:eek: Well....not in MY driveway.

Why did the __________ cross the road?
To get to the other side.:biggrin:

A land turtle is a gopher and gopher stew is very good. Chuck here is a link to a recipe: http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1748,153179-241193,00.html
Thank you Roy. However, I think I would be preparing and, eating the stew by myself. I think I'll stick with the meat department at Publix

Publix, one of a number of things I miss from Florida, along with avacodo, mango, orange, & kumquat trees growing in the back yard..

He would be heading north from my back yard. Its 4 to 6 inches under water and raining.

I like cooter stew. Had one lay eggs in my front yard a couple of years back. She could dig a hole like no ones business. As far as the short cut goes, when you move that slow, you need all the short cuts you can get.

Obviously he took the curve too fast and "skidded" into your yard....might want to give the snail a breathalizer.....nothing worse than an inebriated invertebrate.....

They are protected because they are slow and some of the best eating to be had! I do ocassionally miss reptiles and amphibians especially now that I have a child. Used to spend hours catching frogs and turtels when I was a kid.

When I was a kid growing up in Florida they were not protected and while dating my ex wife her family had me over for "stew" delicious until they told me it was "gopher", of course I thought the little furry rhodent not a turtle and stopped eating to make a quick trip to the restroom.
