I cast a blank that when I looked at it, seemed to be perfect for explaining about squaring blanks. Veterans already know this, newer pen makers might find this helpful. If you look at the first picture, you will easily notice the tube isn't even close to being straight thru the blank.
After squaring the blank, to the tube, you will notice the actual blank is extremely unsquare.
After turning to size and assembling there are no gaps in the finished pen. Point of all this is just to demonstrate the concept of squaring to the tube and that the squareness of the actual blank is inconsequential.
