Here's an example of drilling with the cross slide. 3" spade bit, 18" long. Part is 19 1/2". Will have to drill this from each end. Material didn't come as tube.

Reminds me of the old days, I got a selection of spade bits, both bought and some I made.

Had a job one time the boss, thought it would be a good Idea to trepan the part to save the scrap for another job. had to trepan a 6" hole on a 22" long part, the trepan tool we made ourselves, it was fun I can tell you that. :rolleyes: Yes we cut from both ends.
