I like making 'themed' pens so here is my rendition of Team GB's 4 Man Bobsleigh at the recent 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. I think only the second team had the Union Jack flag on their helmets. The first team was just black.

When I was watching, I noticed that on many of the bobsleighs, it looked like the front nose cone was about to fall off, and figured that it could be a pen cap......

So just for fun, I made this one today. The 'helmets' are earing studs.

Hope you like it.

love to know how you made it.

Harry

Not too tricky Harry. Although I did break the first one in half:mad:

1. Thread some brass to act as the tube / couplers. 10mm x 0.75 with OD 12mm
2. Make a long dummy threaded mandrel to support things while they are being turned / routered. Can't rely on the short thread of a nib.
3. Join two round blanks with a male / female recess.
4. Router three and a half sides. The half is the top. Also for the 'wings'
5. Sand and polish till you get blisters:redface:
6. Drill tiny holes for the earing pin, which has been cut short and glue them in.
7. Knock up a stainless nib.

Job done!!

Gorgeous, Steven. I almost enjoy your work in progress pics more than the finished article - you have such great tools and jigs. Almost ...

Such vision you have Steve. Well executed as usual. I really like this one. Only problem is the spelling of "Bob sled"

Chuck, I just Googled it and it seems that the UK uses primarily 'bobsleigh' and USA uses 'bobsled'. Probably cos yous guys cant spell!!

That is awesome Skip. I love it.
Should be a good Auction Item for next Bash. (And there is no need to tell me where to bash it).
It is truly an original pen.
Thanks for showing.
Bob.
