Turning this Zen pen was not an easy task and turned out flawed anyways. I have never even thought about painting tubes for a wooden pen. Guess I'll have to rethink that. This was a Chechen burl blank that I stabilized, plenty of voids appeared as I turned it. You can see a couple of areas where the brass is showing through. I'll be disassembling it and remaking it. Darn shame because this is some gorgeous wood. As usual, pictures don't do it justice. You can be sure I'll be painting any tubes using the rest of the blanks I have.

Beautiful wood there!

I always add some black paint to the epoxy when gluing the tube. Black tends to It gives me a hint of concealment if I run into a void. But I've had several like what you show here anyways.

A real shame in this case because of how nice the blank is.

Honestly, I like the brass showing through. I think if you disassemble and put it on a brass kit, it'd be even better.

I've repaired some things like that before simply by drizzling in some Testor's enamel paint and then by either making a light pass to turn the excess off or by using a hard backed sandpaper to sand it off. I hope you are able to make some kind of repair, it is a beautiful blank. - Dave
