Here's a slimline pen w/zebrawood and red foil inlay pen, this process is the credit of skiprat suggestion, the blank was cut down to 5/8x5/8xby 5"
then the slits cuts one was done on bandsaw other was done with a dremel cutter , then i took red foil that is use by the printing industry for foil stamping thats when i stuff the foil in the cuts then ca glue into the cuts then lightly crush the wood together on vise till dry ,then turn the pen. NOTE i did not cut all the way through the wood blank.

Glenn if you double click on picture you can see the cross inlay try the far left picture or maybe your computer doesn't have the feature. Thanks for looking funny you say this "skiprat" is a longtime member from UK , saw the same pictures and said excellent pictures clean sharp lines on cross.

You can see it some in last picture. But not very good.
Maybe turn the flash off and take a picture outdoors.
But other wise looks good.
