I thought I remembered seeing a thread where people posted a bunch of pictures of their shops....maybe that was Sawmill Creek....anyway!

I know pen turning doesn't really have to take up the whole shop, but I'm always interested in seeing what others have done in their shops. I think it would be great if we could show more custom shop jigs and layouts and whatnot. I'm one of those guys that has to buy every one of those Wood Magazine America's Greatest Workshops issues!! I get at least one great idea out of every issue. So what are all your great shop tips? I'll post pictures of my own tomorrow since it's almost my bedtime!!

There are quite a few posts about this. If you go back to the very beginning of this particular forum that's all people did was post photos of their shops.

This is how my shop/Laboratory looked in November, it is more/less cluttered now with more tools set up and lots of parts, wood and stuff stuck in it.

If you note the fan in the wall over the fireplace, it is a 1500cfm fan with a 7 position switch. The fan gets much use when I am casting. The fireplace hasn't had any use since the 70's. The floor is a 2 layer floor, 3/4 plywood with 2 x 6 yellow pine planks laid out as deck on top.

A few pics of my 12x10 shop

Almost everything is on wheels.. only way I can get anything moved. :knife:

I've been known to clean up now and again, but usually only when I can't find something after 15 mins of searching.

Man, I wish I had a basement... It's like a free indoor shop. In Houston, anything 3" below ground level becomes a pool.

I will have to take some pics of my shop and post them up. Nice shops guys.

I know you guys mean Mike's place when you are talking about basements...

My laboratory/workroom/man-cave/Fortress-of-Solitude (except I didn't put locks on the interior doors), is the old carport that got enclosed back in the 70's when we added the second story on the back of the house. During last Summer/Falls renovation, I found the windows at a door and window supply company that had a subdividsion cancel their order due to bankrupcy and got them for 40% off. The steel exterior French doors were on clearance from Lowes for $75.00 I bought 4 sets. The multi-lite door in the 5th photo was from the original interior French doors that were moved out to be the exterior doors in the 70's, that I replaced. I split them up and closed the entrance from the back hall at one end with one door and the old dining room on the other end with the other door.

I forgot to mention that it is 11' x 24'.
