I have almost run out of room in this little shop of mine. So adding more tools and such is hard. So I had a thought, I know I shouldn't but it happened!

Would it be possible to sharpen on the lathe? Have a piece where you can attach the wheels. Is this possible?

When turning even green wood for bowls, I have to sharpen tools every five minutes or sometimes less. When turning spindles, not as often but still not infrequently.

Sure. I made a sanding disc that screws onto my lathe spindle and accepts hook/loop abrasive. I made it for sanding, but I keep on disc that I devote to metal and that I use for tool sharpening.

I recall someone talking about making a disc that attached to the handwheel on the outboard end of the headstock. The disc was made of MDF and had a cove in it. The person who made it rubbed some buffing compound in the cove, and then used it to hone tools 'on the fly' while turning.

If you have a place to store a grinder, you could utilize your lathe bed to mount the grinder when you need to sharpen and then store the grinder away.
For me, I grind occasionally and hone frequently.

I have a Rikon system that stores on a shelf under the lathe. However, I will sharpen before turning and later, as I turn, hit the edge with the three DMT diamond files. Also, have a photo of s system I made.

Look on eBay for mini belt sander. About $45. Most use a 775 motor that are good ones. Set up a DIY sharpener based on Captain Eddie's videos.

I have a mini set up Taig lathe, mini belt sander, a Dremel saw and a mini drill press it all fits in a suit case for travel. I call it my nursing home shop.

No room for a grinder
I use my sanders already but I might be using the wrong grit? Usually, I always have 120 on them.
