My wife asked me to make her something to put her pens in at work, so this is what I came up with. It's a lamination of Tulipwood, white oak, walnut and hard maple, sliced at 30 degrees, 4 inches long. It's a random, but interesting quilted design that anyone can do, although it is a full day project, or at least for me it was. The bottom is plugged with a hard maple tapered plug. I only have 5 bowl chisels, so cleaning out the inside was quite a chattering challenge. The cup is 3 inches wide, but only 2 inches wide in the center.
