This has been a 3 week project that I am very happy to have finished. It's a donation group I provide every year to the IL Taxidermist Assoc to help fund their youth program scholarships and such. It gives me the opportunity to make pens out of Mother Natures materials. The groups seem to get bigger each year as I look for more things to add.

This year started with 5 wood Jr's I made from figured Camphor that I received from Joe (Wood128) here on IAP. He was right when he said the smell of Camphor would clear my sinuses! These pens go to their competition judges.

Next is a duck feather Jr Statesman. I actually made 2 of these that look very similar. One will be auctioned off and the proceeds, along with the second pen will go to a fellow bird taxidermist who is fighting cancer.

The large group of sierra (Diamond knurl's from Exotic Blanks) will be used for raffles, auctions and gifts to assorted members. They consist of Ringneck pheasant feathers, assorted duck feathers, python snake, red stag antler, Amherst pheasant, Chukar Partridge, engraved wood, alligator jaw bone, and some opal fx.

The last pics are some left over antler pieces I made some key chains and bottle openers (caribou & whitetail), along with some bottle stoppers I engraved that were turned by Dick Sing that fit over the bottle. (something different from the usual stoppers).

Thanks for looking!

John,
I've said it before but your work is excellent. I especially love the duck feather Jr Statesman, the match on that is out of sight. Dick did a gorgeous job on the stoppers too.

John, that's a collection and a half!!! Everyone of them is top drawer. Those taxidermists are well blessed knowing you.

I am amazed at John's feather blanks every time I see them - simply a work of art!!!

Not to say everything else in the group isn't nice, but the feathers are beyond pretty.

Kevin

Thanks for all the kind words. I just heard back after the show with bid results. All of the pens were well received and I was very happy to hear everyone loved the Duck Feather rollerball. It was put on auction and the winning bid was $1100. I was very happy to hear that but what really surprised me was he donated it back and they auctioned it off again for another $1100 so the total was $2200. Thankfully the proceeds went to a cancer victim so I know that had a huge impact on the bids and the pen was just the bonus. When I hear about things like this it makes it easier to accept why I didn't keep it, even if I really wanted to. (lol) They said the feather ballpoints all averaged $125. each. Many of the wood and antler pens were gifted.
