So, my father-in-law, who loves to visit the metal scrap yard, calls me up and tells me he found 2 stainless steel 5 gallon pressure pots in like new condition. Says I can buy them for the weight cost of scrap stainless and that he would stay there and "guard" them until I can come take a look.

So, this morning, I drove down there and sure enough, there were these 2, 5 gallon Graco ASME Certified pressure pots. The seals inside are in perfect condition and they look barely used, if at all. We got the weight of them and it calculated out to $75 each! Needless to say, I jerked out the debit card and QUICKLY paid for them before anyone could change their mind!

These are ASME certified with a working pressure of 100 psi! When I got home, I looked them up on the net and found that the ones I bought normally have an agitator in them which was missing. Other than that, all the remainder of the parts are there. With the agitator, they retail for $2,180 EACH. They also have a model exactly the same except without the agitator. Those retail for $1,600 EACH! So, basically, I got $3,200 worth of pressure pots for $150! Heck, they are selling used on E-bay for $800-900!

Talk about the gloat and deal of the century!!

Man! I never have luck like that! I'm always the "next" guy that "just missed it".

Congratulations! Those pots should WORK 80 PSi without worry (or possibly more, if ever needed).They look brand new!

Wow, talk about being in the right place at the right time! The only problem I see is that you now owe your father-in-law BIG TIME!!!
Congratulations, nice haul!

Dang. What a score. I am looking for a new pressure pot. Never thought about visiting a junk yard......

Whats with the holes at the bottom?

in searching the S/S......it has been reported stoled..........

Ha, Only kidding...very nice hall

Way to go Curtis! Hey, how's about I give you $150 for 1?????:biggrin::wink:

Of course they were cheap. They got big holes in the bottom. Even I can see that.:biggrin:

I really really LOVE the scrap yard. My wife does not like how much I really really love the scrap yard. The only thing that has kept me in check is I can only go there on days off because they close early and are not open on Saturday.

Actually, after I took a closer look at them a few minutes ago, I see the certification company stamp in the metal of the tank and they are CERTIFIED to a working pressure of 110 psi!

The holes on the bottom lead to a drain in the very bottom of the tank. They are currently plugged but Graco offers some accessory kit to have a drain with a valve to make it easier to drain the tank when using it to spray with. Makes sense since a 2.5 gallon pot full of paint or such does not weight nearly as much as a 5 gallon pot full. Would hate to have to lift the 5 gallon pot to pour out the contents left inside. These suckers are heavy with nothing in them, weighing in at 40 pounds.

when with GE i designed and built ASME sect vIII vessels. just that certification is a night mare to achieve. no wonder those are so expensive. those were tested at minimum of 150PSI as well as certs on every piece of material involved and certifications for every one who worked on them. You could in theory track down the guys name who cut the metal to make the clamp bolts from. amazing buy. one lucky dude.

Looks like you came out on the GREAT end of the deal. If you can pressurize it to 70lbs or so it should be great.

If I can't pressurize them to AT LEAST 70 psi I am going to throw them away or take them back to the scrap yard! I currently use 80 psi in my 2 Binks ASME certified pots and plan to use these at the full 100 psi.

Curtis,
That manufacturer is only about 10 miles from me.If you would send me one I can have it checked out for you.I'll bet the are deemed defective and will have to be disposed of here in Michigan in a proper manner.

But

<pull your chain mode on>

Curtis you dummy!

Look at the bottom of the pot and you'll see they have a hole in them so it looks to me like you got rooked! But; being the nice guy that I am I'll give you $20.00 each if you pay shipping to me.

<pull your chain mode off>

Good for you Curtis. Looks like you did good bud.
