Our turning club had a One Board Foot Challenge a couple months ago. You could only use a total of one board foot of wood and other materials. Had to be made of 1" stock but you were not limited to one species and it could be cut and glued together in any way you like being no more than 12" in any direction. I skipped the notion of segmenting and went with glueing a pair of boards together that reminded me of the landscapes all around me. The sky is Satin Walnut (Red Gum) and the prairie is White Oak. While the joint between the two pieces looks like it is a straight line it is a gentle curve that did take a lot of fiddling to get tight. It is 11 3/4" across and 5/8" high. Finished with Tried and True Finish, a food safe linseed oil and wax just in case it ends up being used for eats.

I used a piece of the scrap Oak to make a Longwood Click that I'll post in the appropriate forum.
