today was bowl day . Turning a small bowl 6" or so finished , from an ash log .

the challenge is getting down thin enough to split off from the drive core WITHOUT going through the base / side . It really focuses your. mind on tool angles although you do have variable speed 😜. managed to get fairy even 3/8 wall thickness apart from base .

I keep reminding myself we do this for pleasure ! mind you it's very civilised we stop for lunch n then recommence at a more " leisurely " pace afterwards

A couple of catches inside as I cores out before splitting off the core and mandrel. Didn't make the access hollow wide enough for the 3/8" hook tool body but overall I'm quite pleased. Note the distorted rim as the Ash dried out. Wall thickness is a nice even 3/8 most of the way down with slightly thicker base ( undercut externally to make is sit right after drying.
At the Bodgers ball meeting a guy turned 2 bowls in 28 minutes!!! This took me approx 3 hours for a single bowl.
now coated in OSMO OIL to seal it .
