Pierced!

This is my latest redwood burl bowl. It was turned form a throw away sapwood piece that had very little heartwood. The finish has not b een put on yet as it still has hours of snading and prepwork before that stage. It does have some sanding sealer on it. I just finished carving the bowl and had to share. I am thinking of finishing with lacquer in satin.

Bowl is approximately 7" diameter and 3" tall at its highest. Carving was done with a NSK dental drill. Wall thickness is about 1/16? I have never turned redwood this thin before. It was a bit scary.

I was hand sanding it to get it ready for sealer and was scared I would break it the entire time.

Great piece and craftsmanship, it takes lots patience to carve all those holes but I'm glad you did, that is certainly a keeper...!

Wonderful bowl! Awesome piercing and the the burr is gorgeous. Like those pretty grains and figures. Can't wait to see it with finish.
