The elves in Santa's workshop are still toiling away

The tall pepper mill is Narra and the other is Mesquite. They look pretty similar and both were a pleasure to work with.

Keith,
Nice pepper mills.. I like the shape and your choice of woods. I like the more contemporary styles in my shapes too... PM's are one of my favorite things to turn.

The ring holders are nice too...haven't tried those yet, but on my to do list.
Same with the clocks... I've done one so far, I like your design.

Good work on all.

Hi, nice work on all. I read an article on how the clocks are made in Woodturners Magazine, and said to my self, " i gotta make dem". They turned out nice.

Nice.. I like the Nara and the ring boxes look stunning.
What sort of finish are you using on these?

I gave them a coat of BLO, let it dry a couple of days and then a couple coats of spray lacquer. In retrospect I wish I had not used the BLO as it darkened both the ring holders considerably. They looked better when they were a lighter color. Live and learn, should have used Tung Oil on the lighter woods.

You don't have a problem with the lacquer going on over the oil?
I got a travel mug back a few days ago, the lacquer looked like something
you could pack fragile items in; it had so many bubbles in it. I'm not sure if
I let it cure long enough (3 days) or perhaps the BLO was old?

Dunno, it makes me nervous. The mug looked great for a few months.
I've got poly drying on it now..

Don't you be jinxing me now

LOL .. I'll be shutting up now ..

I haven't had any problems like you mention. I finish my pens the same way.

OK .. maybe it was me, not waiting long enough (impatient? me?)
Maybe I should try the Japan Dryer, see if that will help.
I like the lacquer finish, and I like BLO for bringing out the best of the figure
but I've been skeered
