Pentel conversion - apple.JPGI made this conversion using the old step drill method. The wood is apple from a yellow delicious apple tree we had years ago. The quick finish is Yorkshire Grit and Hampshire Shine. I've been asked to demonstrate the step drill method and wonder if http://www.theperfectcollection.com/ is still in business? I can't seem to pull up supplies to order anything from the website and emails have gone unanswered. Thanks for your help.

To the original poster:
What I'm interpreting from your post is that you want to buy the step drill bit so you can use it for your demonstration or you want to have a link that you can present at your demonstration where people can buy the bit if they want to try it for themselves?

I would offer an alternative:

Either use Don Ward's method (he linked to it above) or contact Rick Harrell and see if he can make you the step bits. I believe he still makes those.

I dont believe that perfectcollection is in business anymore and thus those original step drills are no longer available, which is why Rick Harrell offers his version or you use the alternate method as presented by Don Ward (its_virgil).

Thank you all so much. I'm set for myself but wanted a resource list available for those interested. I've played with the Rich Kleinhenz method Don provided but don't have any slimline kits to rob and am trying to use up what I have so I really don't want to order any. I did try to make some from a brass piece but really didn't feel it was worth my time. I can only work in the shop for a short time each day due to health issues, so I have to be pretty picky about what I choose to do. I'll bet Rick could mill some inserts and if so I'd consider getting some. Certainly the Rich Kleinhenz method would be much quicker. What would be the dimensions required to make something like that?

Wishing you a speedy recovery Don.
