I hate New Year Resolutions.
... and I dislike using the word "hate" in forums and conversation. There are rare instances where no other word is appropriate, and this is one of them.
My father was a strict, disciplined man. Every year he forced us children to write New Year resolutions, review them with him, and revise them, ad nauseam. We were little kids, so naturally there was resistance, tears, yelling, slammed doors, you name it. The process of writing them took an entire day and was so unfair, especially considering that we were off from school. He would remember the resolutions in all their glorious detail and would occasionally ask us about our progress throughout the year. Today, people would say that he "weaponized" New Year resolutions. :-(
Apologies to all here. That triggered a deep memory. For the record, I love my father very much and know that he meant well, but that particular habit made every New Years Eve day miserable.
