Hello all, I just wanted to throw out a Hello and introduce myself.
My Name is David , aka "Scratch" I'm new to to turning only having been at it for a month. I've turned appx 12 pens so far and given most of them away
since I wasn't very happy with how they turned out. Each pen is turning out better though. Anywhoo, I'm from Lakeland, Fl and I'm a Truck Driver by trade.

Welcome David. Keep those first pens and compare them to ones you make later--you'll be surprised and it will probably happen pretty quick.

Welcome David . . . from southern California.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

This link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.

I did keep the first two. My Wife confiscated the first one,
And I keep the second one in my nightstand drawer. My Son's got pens # 3-6. I can already see the difference.
