I am new around here, some background information.
I started turning pens about a year ago, pictured below are some of most recent pens. I turn mostly wood pens but i have some acrylic blanks that i want to finish, most of the acrylic ones i have tried have blown apart.

In case anyone was wondering i am only 16.
what is a good bullet cartridge kit to start with?

Welcome from the Jersey shore Ryan . Your pens look good , keep at it . Acrylics are different then most woods . You need very sharp tools and a light touch .

Welcome, Ryan.

Some nice stuff you're showin'

As Butch mentioned, you need a light touch and sharp tools for acrylics (but then that's generally true of most anything), but they polish up nicely if they survive that long. You'll also find that many of the acrylics get transparent/translucent when you turn them down that thin, so most folks paint the tubes and/or the inside of the holes.

I've not done any cartridge pens, so I'm afraid I can't help you, there.

Welcome from Michigan. The best cartridge pens are the ones you make from real cartridges yourself. The library here has several great tutorials on making these.

Welcome Ryan! You have some nice looking pens there. It took me a little while to learn the "light touch" needed for acrylics. Even with that, if there is a bubble or fissure in the resin, I can still blow one over to another ROOM. Some places sell nickle tubes for use with Acrylics because it will reflect the color of the acrylic back.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
