Our local track is opening back up on the 4th after being closed since '04. Nothing like takeing some one new and sitting in the front row on the front strech with a drink in your hand and feel the vibration.

Can't wait I'm getting excited I usely sit half way up the stands behind the flager.

Hey if Danica finished 12TH then 31 guys finished behind her. The design of the mile in a half track make it to easy. They need to make them more like Darlington and take away some of the Areo. They also could run 4 heat races to make up the starting line up for the 200 mile main event of 22 cars and have the 21 other cars run a 100 mile semi main with the top 2 transferring to the main. Invert the start and give passing points in the semi and main. Back in the day if some one was running away with the race Big Bill or Bill Jr. would have debris caution to bunch the field up especially near the end. Back in the day also was watching Dan Gurney drive the Wood Brothers car at Riverside. Left are resting on the window sill going through turn 6 like he was on a sunday drive. Saw Roger Penske come form a lap down in a Pontiac GP to win a 400 mile NASCAR race at Riverside also.

Being a dirt racer, i like the heats, but absolutely hate passing points. There a few tracks we race that have passing points. You better hope you start in the rear or else start from the pole and win the damn thing. But with 43 cars you would have to do something like 4 10 lap heats. Top 6 in each go to the feature, then have 4 10 lap consi races with the top 4 advancing from each. The feature would be a 50 lap shootout with a mandatory caution at lap 25. That might make for some entertaining racing.

Asphalt 1/4 mile with a figure 8. Up north they didn't have figure 8s. I saw them for the first time here in Florida. They got another short 1/4 ml. paved track about 2 hrs north of here Citrus Co. Speedway near Invernis neat little place no wall in turn one when some one would go off track they would disapear you would see a cloud of dust as they went over the hill sometimes they came back on sometimes not. They made the news this week last Sat. night they had a bad wreck in the figure 8 school bus and the guy got killed first time they had a fatality at that track in over 40 years.

When I was involved as a car owner at our local 1/4 dirt track we feasted on passing points. Won 4 overall championship on 2 tracks. We would take bets amongst crew as to what lap our driver would take the lead with and with out yellow flags. We had a fast car dash (4 cars) Heat winners Dash (4 cars) final heat with the 2-4 place cars in each heat 24 car main event and 24 car or less semi. 4 lap dashes, 10 lap heats 10 lap final heat 12 lap semi and 25 lap main. On Holidays we had 100 lap open compition. with dashes and heat races. Super Modifies, Sprint cars, unlimited engines, fuel and wings, fast cars start in front. yellow flag laps count until 5 to go. No green white checker. Out here pavement was for road racers and the drags. Only one good 1/4 paved track was in San Jose, everything else was Dirt. Now there are very few track in California most put out of business because of noise restriction, tree huggers and high land values.
