I was planning on going to the race this weekend, but opted out and gave the tickets to my brother. Weather is going to be 106 with a heat index of over 120. Lots of drunks and heat will make for another disastrous race in Ky. I know no pic.... So here's a pic off of my phone

Now see, this is why I like Florida, at least where we are. We have the nice weather in the winter and we do have a lot of humidity. But we never seem to get ridiculous temperatures like that.

Mike

Better off to sit in front of the TV. I don't miss a race & love going to the local short track. But a big NASCAR maybe once to experience the insanity but not to watch a race.

With that heat it should make for a very eventful race

I don't do NASCAR (is that unAmerican?), but I'm scheduled for a market in downtown Knoxville this weekend... think I'm going to cancel and stay home... there was a time when the heat wouldn't bother me, but think that was about 40 or so years ago...

I like your style Bruce:biggrin:. I barely made it through the day today, it was 105. I'll be enjoying the race on my couch in the ac with some ice cold sweet tea and possibly some wings from Hooter's. I may even throw in a few margarita's and one or two tequila on the rocks.

Hey Jr's on a roll maybe another???? It's about time he got one!!!

Danica is starting to show some back bone. There beating the crap out her maybe she'll finish on the lead lap. Kentucky's a short track 1.5 ml lot of beaten & banging.

Oh I'll be watching the trucks tonight. There fun they always put on a show and tear up some sheet metal.

I never miss Daytona or Taladaga I love those Super Speedways. It's just human nature to want to see the big one. Kind of like going to a hockey game and wanting to see a good fight. Just the way people are weather they admit it or not.

My guess is Danica gets lapped by lap 45. I always watch Daytona and Talladaga just for The Big One.

Your probably rite she just don't have the Ba... ah conhunizzzes yet

Well Bruce, my guess was wrong. She went a lap down on lap 90. Maybe Tony will let her borrow his pair:biggrin:

Darn I missed it. What happen she was holding on in the beginning. I'm in & out of the shop. I never miss the opening cerimonys and at least the first 10 laps. Then I go about my work listen and check in. Then catch the last 10 laps. Seems like they got a long green and on a short track cars get lapped very fast rite now only 8 on lead lap she's still 14. If they get a cation fast then there should be a lot do a pass around.

That would be very interesting. I've been in and out of the shop all night. Catch the race when I come in for a few minutes. It sure looks like Austin Dillon is flying. They said he's lead all but 8 laps.

Well Danica came in at 12 not bad. She's hanging in there. I think she's better on the big tracks. Seems these races this year just have not had enouph cautions. Got to do something it gets borring when they get stung out. I like compition but come on we want to see the beaten and banging.

I think it will be more the same tomorrow longe ngreen runs maybe 5 or 10 on the lead lap in the end.
.

I just heard on the radio that Austin's car didn't pass post race inspection. They said the ride height was to low in the rear.

Haa they probably set it up in the heat of the day what 106 then at end of race it was something link 30-40 deg. cooler. I think that would effect some air pressure

That combined with all the freacking bumps in the track. It'll probably be a small fine. Nobody had a shot at beating him last night.

Not counting road races there are only 5 tracks longer than 1.5 miles and 9 shorter so I wouldn't call Ky or any other 1.5 mile track a short track it's about the standard.
Just my $0.02 worth.
Go Jr !!!

Just did a quick look on NASCAR & SPEED didn't find anything about it. I would think that would make the headlines

They talked about it on NascarNow at noon on ESPN. Maybe the communications line has melted so noboby has any clue.

The cup race was boring. These mile and half track are boring the need to change them. The heat didn't seem to be a big problem for the cars maybe the drivers but now a days with the ventalation systems to seem to fair better than back in the day. The areo packages and the tires have made the cars pretty stable so not a lot of yellow this year. 83 laps at Sear Point last week, unheard of.

Tom, I used to live in Vallejo, Sears Point/ Golden State Raceway?? Was one of my favorite tracks, although Monterrey wasn't too bad, just Sears Point was closer, used to love the Nascar race and went nuts for the Can Am events, but that was 35 years ago, Oh well at least I still remember that I used to have fun.

I agree Tom, it was very boring. Maybe they need to put a chicane in the straightaway or something. Now what would make it really interesting is to have all cars qualify, after that no changes can be made until the race is underway. Then right before the start they flip a coin, heads they go clockwise and tails the go counterclockwise. Might make for some craziness:smile:.

I agree there getting BORING not enough yellows. Long green flag runs are painfully boring good competition but not good for TV.

I say break a race up into segments. Maybe just outside a fuel run and throw a caution and bunch it back up it would be like several dashes. Then you got to run hard and survive (kind of like the allstare race) Not just make laps till the last quarter.

I quit watching NASCAR circlejerks because of "the big one". If I want to be a vulture I can just go out to the nearest highway and watch the stupids maul each other. Watching grown men drive in circles for hours while making stupid decisions like wrecking other cars seems kind of stupid. But.....to each his own.

Question of the week that was on Wind Tunnel tonight - Do you think Nascar should have mandatory cautions to keep from having long boring races.

My solution is Less down force and more horsepower. Also limit the teams to only a few sets of tires per race.

So I'm not the only one thinking more cautions. Canges the stratigy makes them go for it instead of riding it out. And just love those doublr file restarts. As was said my the moderators in the allstar race they use that for a testing ground. Now that was an exciting race.

They do make progess Daytonia nhext week it's better than before with the tamdon hook-up a little more pack but could be better.

Looking forward to Daytonia

Manditory cautions would keep you in front of the TV. I find myself watching the first 10 laps then just listening if there's a caution I run to catch the restart. Then watch the last 10 laps.

There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed. For me seeing nascar races on indy car tracks have to be the worse. The Indy 500 track is a bad nascar track. Hard to pass, little yellows and very boring as well. Dega has to be my favorite. Sometimes the high side works sometimes it is the low line. You can even have three trains side by side by side with 50 lead changes during a race. I don't have to see a big wreck, but I would like to see a little more rubbin. There are a few drivers that just need to be put into the wall to keep them in line and more of that would be entertaining. The cars and tracks are pretty darn safe, so putting Kyle into the wall and into the pits would be worth watching.

It was good to have the "Boys have at it" But yea Kyle took it a little too far last year. He needed a BIG attitude adjustment on and off track he would constantly blow off interviews and whine. Seems he settled a little this year.

Dega my favorite also heck Carl tore the fence down there. I still say break the races into segments somehow. Maybe give some points leading each segment that would be an incentive and keep them packed up. I think there talking about the same stuff behind the doors. Danica and Jr finally winning are great for the sport but it needs a little more. I'm a die-hard race fan and never miss a one but I'm not glued to the TV.

I used to go the local 1/4 mile track back east in NJ they ran Open Wheel modifieds. Here in Florida we used to go to Sunshine Speedway in Clearwater they closed about 12 years ago BUT are reopening as ShowTime Speedway there opening night is the Wednesday July 4. They still have no stands so bring your own chair (that will get real old real fast) but I mite go to show support. They got 50 cars entered among 4-5 classes not bad for a start. I hope they get it together the track is only 1/2 hr from me in Clearwater.

I watch most Nascar races. I may not watch from beginning to end, but I still watch. I'm a fan of all motor sports. I'll watch any racing on the speed channel. As a fan this year will complete my Grand Slam of Racing. I've attended the Indy 500 and lots of other Indy races, Daytona 500 and the Brickyard for Nascar, 24 hours of Daytona, Moto GP at Indy, U.S. Grand Prix for Formula One, The Baja 1000 3 times, the US Nationals for NHRA, and Eldora for The World of Outlaws Sprints. This year I made it to the 100,000 to win Prelude for Late Models. Then in August will be the Last One on my bucket list. Bonneville Salt Flats for The Fastest Week in the World!! I may try to make it to Pike's Peak next year, but who knows.

Hey if Danica finished 12TH then 31 guys finished behind her. The design of the mile in a half track make it to easy. They need to make them more like Darlington and take away some of the Areo. They also could run 4 heat races to make up the starting line up for the 200 mile main event of 22 cars and have the 21 other cars run a 100 mile semi main with the top 2 transferring to the main. Invert the start and give passing points in the semi and main. Back in the day if some one was running away with the race Big Bill or Bill Jr. would have debris caution to bunch the field up especially near the end. Back in the day also was watching Dan Gurney drive the Wood Brothers car at Riverside. Left are resting on the window sill going through turn 6 like he was on a sunday drive. Saw Roger Penske come form a lap down in a Pontiac GP to win a 400 mile NASCAR race at Riverside also.
