Nice first pen. Good shape to it. You just need to press the nib end in a bit more :wink:

Thanks for noticing that. I don't have a pen press yet so I used a clamp to press the pen. That was a simple fix. Thanks again. :smile:
 
Welcome to the forum. Nice pen and great finish. Many regard red oak as firewood.

I started with red oak to be on the safe side. If I messed up it wouldn't be a big loss. I thought that using the stain would bring out the grain in the wood. I bought a $7 board and turned it into 30 blanks. :smile:
 
Great start! Nothing wrong with Red Oak; although inexpensive, not the easiest to turn. Very open grain, but perfectly fine when sanded, dust blown out, and finished. The stain also added a nice touch.
