As it turns out, casting WW under pressure makes a huge difference. I have been experimenting with it without pressure and getting highly variable results. I finally broke down and made a pressure pot.

It made a world of difference. Here is the first one out of the mold, finally rounded. I don't know what kind of wood it is. It came in a box of burl caps I picked up.

This is about 3/4" diameter. My plan was to make my wife a virage from it, but she took one look at it, declared it to be weird, and wandered off. I am going to assume that means she is not interested in having a pen from it...

It is PR. It turned great.

The color is a bit off in this picture. It is actually a bit more purple than blue.

I am really happy with the results. I am debating whether to keep using this mold or buy a proper one. I did this with HDPE siliconed together. It worked well enough, but the texture made it a bit tough to extract. I might mill out a proper mold from a brick of HDPE with a couple of press holes sized for my silicone stoppers.

On the other hand, I could just buy a nice silicone mold from one of the vendors.

Decisions decisions...
