As it turns out, casting WW under pressure makes a huge difference. I have been experimenting with it without pressure and getting highly variable results. I finally broke down and made a pressure pot.
It made a world of difference. Here is the first one out of the mold, finally rounded. I don't know what kind of wood it is. It came in a box of burl caps I picked up.
This is about 3/4" diameter. My plan was to make my wife a virage from it, but she took one look at it, declared it to be weird, and wandered off. I am going to assume that means she is not interested in having a pen from it...
