Ok, so it's not a wood lathe, but many of y'all have seen this lathe before, but now she's getting a new cabinet. I finished off the top of the new cabinet tonight and started in building the face frame to house the 4" deep full width drawer and the lower doors.

This is nice and solid and bolted to the wall on 2 sides. The top is 3/4 ply, topped with a layer of 1/4 oiled hardboard and edged in oak.
The lower base will be painted in a flat finish of deep burgandy I have for a trim color in the shop. The lower doors will be a shaker style frame & panel, but with dark gray hammertite painted peg board to keep with the look of others in the shop.

Anyway, I really like how it's comming out and figured I would share a couple photos.

Thanks guys..

Steve, that is the same lathe that I have had all along, in fact it's pretty much my first large scale old arn refurb.

Johnathan, I really like to keep a clean shop and it's getting closer and closer to being finished everyday, this is one big step as I have been wanting to make a nice metal lathe station for a long time. My next step is to sweet talk my baby sister into making me a nice cover to slip over the lathe when not in use. Oil and sawdust are not friends~

Not sure Steve, it's been three or four years now!

Serously though, right now I have to paint a bank of wall cabintes and build 4 doors for them as well as the face frame and doors for the new lathe stand. Then I have a new wall station to be built for above the wood lathe which will hold pen kits, tools and maybe blanks, however I might build a wall rack just for the blanks and use the extra cabinet space just for stroage. Once this is done, my "layout" is done and I can finish off the walls and paint the shop. I still need to finish my sandblast cabinet and paint it. Then I need to build 3 drawers to finish a cabinet that my chop saw sits on. Oh, and I do want to build a better mobile base for my table saw, but these things can be done after the shop "layout" is finished. Those are projects to enhance the stuff in place, I have been more in the mode of placement of equipment.
