A couple months ago I was talking about lifting my 11" Delta lathe by 1.5" to give me a 14" spin. Well, fast forward a few months and I picked the blocks up so I can finish my end of the build.

The "too short" block is a screw up and will be fixed easily I hope. I have to call tomorow and see if they have .465 left when they cut the block into final size. The said that the milled the block as one piece and then cut it apart. If they do, I can easily weld the section back on as it will be all painted when done. I will use one plug weld on the side/rear and then "V" groove and stich weld the sides up. The top & bottom can be left alone with just a tack in the middle as you will never see it. Sucks, but as explained on my website, the price was right!

I put a web page up to add to my site here:

Oh, and if anyone just happens to have a short piece of link belt kicking around, I need enough to compensate for the 1.5" lift... I hate to buy a whole new belt for a couple inches. Rounded out, 4" would probably be perfect. Please let me know if you have a chunk left over.

Lee,

I think I have an extra length of link belt, although I don't know if it is the right width. I'll check when I get hope from work tonight.

Nolan... buddy!!! LOL[:D]

Jeff let me know if you have some, it's the standard 1/2" belt.

The banjo was swapped out for a 12" lathe banjo when I restored the lathe originaly so I am already higher than I should be, but yes, I will make new tool rests. I made all mine to start with so all I need to do is have some 4.5" tall 1" CRS cut up and then I plan to use a spot weld cutter to cut off the top half from the old posts and then I can reuse them. Worst case I have to buy some more 1" angle iron. The hardest part was fitting the maple inserts to the angle iron and I can reuse them. The good thing is my curved bowl rest from my old Craftsman lathe now fits properly. [:D]

The extra height will be much better with this bulky style banjo, it got a little tight at times. I do have the headstock one (duh..) but I have to fully remove the lathe bed so I can transfer the holes into the block from the underside.

Just a little update with tonights work.. I have the headstock done except for the hand file work to shape the corners to match the headstock casting. I also have almost all the drilling done on the tailstock. I just need to drill and tap the holes in the block to take the 1/4" screws that will hold them togather. I need to wait untill I have that missing 1/2" welded back on as one hole fell almost on the seam.

Perfect alingment at the points and all the holes fit perfect through the block and into the bed.
