All parts should be tenoned into one another, preferably threaded as well. Relying on glue alone is not ideal.

One tip to save a little time experimenting with it (though it might be obvious I didn't think of it in advance): I've found it looks much better if the transparent piece fits into the opaque piece (in other words, the window segment has a tenon that fits into the barrel). This avoids ugliness at the seam.

We're doing ours without assistance currently but there is a tenon cutter that will work for single and triple start threads.
I know with practice one could very efficiently make tenons without needing a cutter, but a cutter provides very consistent results each time after the learning curve I would think.

Looking good! I have been playing with transparent blanks and find this method very effective for internal polishing. The polishing part starts at about minute 11.

I've had success with small diameter polishing bobs with 1/8" shanks. You can buy assortments from Amazon for cheap. I made a mandrel to hold them and use polishing compound.
