Just wanted to say thank you for accepting me as a beginning pen turner. I orgininally got interested in turning as a part of a class and thought I would do bowls and such things. But I got into pen turning as I watched a few people in my class did it. It was not so much the money they have made selling them. I just love finding pieces of wood that are gorgeous and making them even more beautiful I want to get better and learn how to turn between centers. I am learning the CA and BLO method of finishing and have been enjoying practicing them. but whew the fumes. I also like turning acrylic and need to learn to apply all of the little tricks and tips to make awesome pens. So thank you for the community and the fellowship and hope that I can live up to the professionalism that is shown here

Thanks

Paul

Welcome Paul. Turning pens IS fun! And as you mentioned watching the beauty of the wood develop is exciting!

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.

Welcome to a great hobby/profession/addiction from Boulder Creek, CA (formerly of Los Angelos). The people on here will give you a lot of good information. Just remember, it is fun to make sawdust.

Hey, Paul, another welcome - from sunny southern California!

There is a nice bunch of local IAP members meeting in January that'd love to show you more ways to part with your left over funds from the holidays. And it'd be nice to see some of your work, too.
