Hi, I am new to turning. I have only done one pen so far, but I enjoyed it. I don't know why I didn't find out about this a lot earlier. I've had a Shopsmith and lathe tools for 30 years but never really turned anything. I bought a mandrel from PSI, a live center and pen kit from Woodcraft and a friend gave me a blank, so now I've made a pen. I want to make more! :) I also want to thank everyone for all of the information that you have posted here. It has been very help full. I'm looking forward to making something other than another slimline. What is a style that you would recommend for new pen makers?
Thanks again,
Mike

Welcome Mike. I grew up in Fort Wayne graduated from Elmhurst in 84. I moved to Texas in 94 but between high school and Texas I spent 4 years active in the Navy so I spent more time away. This is a great site plenty to read. Enjoy!

Hi Mike. Welcome from sunny southern California. You know, I went from slimlines to cigar pens and some time later, the Sierra style pens. Sierra style is (for me anyway) a lot of fun and simpler that slimline. But I really love cigar pens as well. Exotic Blanks web site sells a nice sierra style pen. Beartooth woods has quite a range, too.
