grinder wheels

Is there any reason I can't put a 8" wheel on a 6" grinder. I have the clearence. The 6" wheel is a little small for grinding the parting tools. There is not enough "flat" space on a 6" wheel. The grinder is old and 3/4 hp.

Most owner manuals will warn against doing that, know mine does. The only parting tool do not sharpen on my 6" grinding wheel is my narrow 1/8" parting tool. I use a diamond card for that tool. I have been sharpen my all of my other parting diamond and flat tools on that grinder for more than 15 years.

Think there are couple of u-tube videos that show different methods of sharpening parting tools.
