Dinning room table...nice dark wood...needs a little something. Lemon oil? Pledge? Need a recommendation for an effective treatment with a simply spray and wipe application. Thanks, Frank

The thing is what was the wood furniture top coated with?? If it is a lacquer or even a poly then all you are doing is polishing the finish. Just like a pen. I have used Murphy's products for the longest time for floors and furniture and it is basically an oily soap and it cleans the woods and does not leave an oily residue. If the wood is open grain then a lemon oil will get it done and they basically are all alike. My opinion.

from my experience, wood is wood, the fibers in the wood
need to breath by putting lemon oil / pledge on will you seal the wood
my 2cents worth is sand it down and the use something like minerial spirts
to wipe it down. I like the look of natural wood, so i my self wood not stain or paint it
I would use somethine like http://www.kottonklenser.com/ to complete your project
to complete your job.....hope this will shed a little light on the other side
of the table

Be careful using spray waxes like Pledge. Some contain silicone that reeks havoc when it comes time to strip and refinish it. The silicone causes fisheye and orange peel in the newly sprayed lacquer. Keep the stuff off your shop machines too. The only good use for it that I have found is for waxing snow shovels.

What Pete said is absolutely true and such a huge factor when working in a wood shop. You see people use all kinds of stuff for waxing tablesaw tops and other machinery. Also for lubricating gears in machines and it can be a nightmare when comes to finishing. Wood is a natural product and needs natural oils. Synthetic stuff is not wanted.
